Saturday, December 5th, 2009OVER THE PAST 40 YEARS, THAT THIS INLAND VISITOR PROJECT HAS BEEN EVOLVING, IT HAS ENJOYED THE SUPPORT OF MANY OF AUSTRALIA’S FINEST, SUCCESSFUL, BUSINESS LEADERS. AND IT HAS ENJOYED HUGE GLOBAL INTEREST , BY INTERNATIONAL , NATIONAL , STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT LEADERS. ALL HAVE BEEN INTERESTED TO SEE A DEVELOPMENT, LIKE THESE RURAL INLAND DISCOVERY VILLAGES, IN BUSINESS, AND SHARING THE MAJORITY OF THEIR PROCEEDS WITH THE SURROUNDING REGION .
AND ALL NATIONS SEEK TO ATTRACT GREATER NUMBERS OF LONG STAY, AFFLUENT , BIG SPEND VISITORS TO THEIR COUNTRY.
James Dyson, Design Engineer, and globally successful Inventor of the Cyclone Vacuum Cleaner, said an idea is just a starting point. ” My first crude prototype was the first step in a long process of developing my invention. There were 500 prototypes before my invention was complete.”
A number of the same industry professionals that were behind this project in the late 1970′s are still associated with it today. Myself, Max Lindegger, George Stone, Diana Byrne, John McNaughton. We have all invested literally thousands of hours and much cash to see this project progressed. And we know that it is now time, with our National Innovations Bank in place, that seed funding be provided to build the fully working, replicable, viable, sustainable, pilot model, of the 1st stage of the Rural Inland Discovery Village. We estimate 10 millions will be required to do this. We have the designs and fifteen supporting experienced professionals to see it happen.
Athur Parsonage OBE was Joint Managing Director and a major shareholder in the project. He was National Chairman of the KFC Franchisees. He died the day of the Rural Inland Discovery Villages major Financial Review launch. This was before the new planned financing arrangements could be put in place to build the 1st stage pilot project. Marc Aussie-Stone , together with George Stone, John McNaughton, Brian Relf and John Czinner has continued with the project since that time.
BOTH MCDONALDS AND KFC LAUNCHED THEIR MULTI STORE BUSINESSES ACROSS AUSTRALIA AFTER HAVING FOREIGN FUNDED THEIR AUSTRALIAN START UP PILOT MODELS.
McDonalds first Fast Food store in Australia 30 years ago cost them one million dollars to get it right. And they had the advantage of bringing all their American plans with them. Today there are 17,000 fast food stores operating throughout Australia and about 800 of these are the replicated first model, McDonalds. And how do I know this. I was the KFC National Launch Marketing Manager when no on would fund the Australian, first store, replicable model prototype. Today there are 600 KFC stores built throughout Australia. I learnt how to do it and built my own 5 replicated store Franchise.
LIKE MCDONALDS AND KFC, WE PLAN A ONE STOP, HOLIDAY, ACCOMMODATIONS , TOURISM AND HOSTING EXPERIENCE.
Our Inland Discovery Village project is total supply chain solution. It motivates a visitor from where the customers originate, right through the visitor service line and for after the customers go home. It is not rocket science but it will firstly transform Australia’s visitor industry and then the global tourism industry. It will do for visitors, both domestic and overseas, what these Fast Food, one stop stores, have done for the take home, meal market. And in that way it will attract new, regular and return holiday visitor customers.

It is very hard to get Regional Tourism Officers to realise that overseas visitors come from overseas and that therefore the important publicity to attract these visitors direct into their rural regions needs to take place where those visitors live and that is “OVERSEAS” .
For those of us who have travelled extensively, and I suppose that my having circled the globe more than 100 times and been to just about every major Travel show on this planet, it may mean that I have travelled extensively, and unless I am not good at what I do, and I am very good at what I do, I would have made many key contacts that can provide free publicity for their Rural Region. There is only one provisio and that is their Region has to agree to do better 7/24 visitor hosting. No more of this , “here is a brochure” you go find it yourself ” rubbish, rubbish, rubbish. If a market is going backward, and Australian Tourism is going backward, and inland Rural tourism is certainly not leaping forward at anywhere near the rate that it could, there is generally a good reason. Ask yourself where do you shop, where do you go when you go out, where do you holiday ? Is it where no one is interested in helping you have a good , the best , experience. ? It isn’t and it never could be. So come on Australia lets work together to improve how we attract, greet , meet and host our own and our overseas Visitors.
